BIO

Carol McDonald is a Jamaican-born artist and designer whose intuition is her muse. She emotes through the visual medium. Carol’s journey as a professional visual artist began in Kingston, Jamaica, at the Edna Manley School of Visual Arts. There she earned a B.A. in Graphic Design.

As an emerging young Graphic Designer, she recognized that art for her was all-encompassing and moved to New York City in 1985 to explore a wider path. There she enrolled in CCNY’s Literature and Creative Writing program which opened more doorways to her creative mind, and helped to propel her career as a Graphic Designer; Art Director for New York’s Liberty Basketball team and then later a contracted Designer for Disney.

While the desire to express herself as a fine artist was constant, the dream remained dormant until 2 years ago when she began examining the inner voices visually. Her continued examination of self, and the world around her has Ied her to a deeper discovery of her heritage. A viewing of the documentary Descendant was the inspiration for manifesting the series of paintings conveying the emotions of enslaved Africans and their loved ones left behind.

An initial six-month flow of energy yielded 20 pieces. Since then, she has continued to expand her catalog of work with a series of stunning, expressive offerings, immediately breathtaking in their scope.
